Programmes Offered at St. Patrick's Foundation

April 2nd, 2008
We offer a variety of programmes inclusive of a remedial programme, which serves youths beginning at ages ten (10) years old. At this stage students are being prepared to sit the Grade Six achievement Test (GSAT) and the Grade Nine Achievement Test (GNAT), which will enable them to be filtered back into the regular school system (high and technical schools) and also for them to enroll in one of our skill programme.

St. Margaret’s Human Resource Centre
St. Margaret’s Human Resource Centre was originally founded to cater to youths within the Olympic Gardens and Waterhouse communities and its environs. Over the years, it has opened its doors a little wider to accommodate individuals beyond the boundaries of these communities.

To date it caters to individuals from as far as St. Thomas and St. Catherine.

The centre prepares students for:
•    Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT)
•    Grade Nine Achievement Test (GNAT)
•    HEART Level 1 examinations in Garment Construction, Furniture Manufacturing and Electrical Installation.
Students are also exposed to Computer Education and Sports.

These skills areas allow both males and females age seventeen (17) and older to begin the path to a successful career.  Each skill area opens the door to a future that was unthinkable to these children.  They can become designers, electricians and carpenters. As part of their course, students get hands on experience of the working world. Students are also exposed to Computer Education and Sports.

The centre operates an outreach feeding programme, as well as a clinic that caters to the school population, the elderly and the wider community.  It also operates a community library, fully sponsored by Jamaica Self Help Canada.

The staff, students, parents and the broader community work as a team to give the youths a chance to make better lives for themselves.  We are proud to host parent training programmes in effective parenting techniques in dealing with children as well as to offer to the community ways to alleviate crime problems and at the same time give the students a chance to be skilled workers for life.
